چکیده
GRS 1747-312 is a bright transient X-ray source in the globular cluster Terzan 6 with quasi-periodic outbursts approximately every 4.5 months. We carried out 2–60 keV target-of-opportunity observations during eight outbursts with the Proportional Counter Array on the RXTE satellite, for a total exposure time of 301 ks, and detect the first unambiguous thermonuclear bursts from this source. This identifies the compact accretor in this binary as a neutron star. The neutron star identification implies that twelve out of thirteen luminous (above 10 erg s) X-ray sources in Galactic globular clusters harbor neutron stars, with AC211’s nature (in M15) remaining elusive. We observed 24 transitions of eclipses of the X-ray emitting region by the companion star and are able to improve the accuracy of the orbital period by a factor of 10. The period is P = 0.514980305(7) d. We do not detect a period derivative with an upper limit of |Ṗ /P | = 3× 10 yr. Archival Chandra data were analyzed to further refine the X-ray position, and the cluster’s center of gravity was re-determined from optical data resulting in a correction amounting to 2 core radii. We find that GRS 1747-312 is 0.2 ± 0.2 core radii from

Faint X-ray Sources in the Globular Cluster Terzan 5
We report our analysis of a Chandra X-ray observation of the rich globular cluster Terzan 5, in which we detect 50 sources to a limiting 1.0-6 keV X-ray luminosity of 3 × 10 ergs s within the half-mass radius of the cluster. Thirty-three of these have LX > 10 32 ergs s, the largest number yet seen in any globular cluster. In addition to the quiescent low-mass X-ray binary (LMXB, identified by W...
متن کاملA Chandra X-ray Study of the Dense Globular Cluster Terzan 5
We report a Chandra ACIS-I observation of the dense globular cluster Terzan 5. The previously known transient low-mass X-ray binary (LMXB) EXO 1745 248 in the cluster entered a rare high state during our 2000 August observation, complicating the analysis. Nevertheless, nine additional sources clearly associated with the cluster are also detected, ranging from LXð0:5 2:5 keVÞ 1⁄4 5:6 1032 down t...
متن کاملThe orbital period of the recurrent X - ray transient in Terzan 6
Five new outbursts were detected of the bright X-ray transient GRS 1747-312 in the globular cluster Terzan 6 between 1996 and 1999, through monitoring campaigns with the Wide Field Cameras on BeppoSAX (WFC) and the Proportional Counter Array (PCA) on RossiXTE . This is the first time that the source is seen to exhibit recurrent outbursts after the discovery in September 1990 with ART-P on Grana...

We report an observation by the Chandra X-ray Observatory of 4U2127+119, the X-ray source identified with the globular cluster M15. The Chandra observation reveals that 4U2127+119 is in fact two bright sources, separated by 2.7. One source is associated with AC211, the previously identified optical counterpart to 4U2127+119, a low mass X-ray binary (LMXB). The second source, M15-X2, is coincide...
متن کاملXMM-Newton light curves of the low-mass X-ray binary EXO 0748–676: dips, eclipses, and bursts
We present an analysis of XMM–Newton light curves of the dipping, bursting, and eclipsing low-mass Xray binary EXO 0748–676, focusing on the variability on time scales of seconds to hours. The observed variability can be roughly divided in three types: dips, eclipses and bursts. We find that the appearance of the latter two, depends strongly on the strength of the first. We show that the absorp...
